I've been thinking a lot lately about the World of Warcraft and in what ways the game can move forward. It's a gigantic ship now, there's so much content and moving pieces in it that any drastic change is unlikely to happen. For instance, WoW isn't likely to just up and throw away leveling in favor of an EVE Online or Elder Scrolls type system.
However that doesn't mean that large change isn't possible. Raiding is one of the favorites to change over time, with new social structures being put in place around the end-game every couple of expansions it seems like. Other major changes are possible in the side games that WoW has, like professions and the recently introduced pet battles. These types of changes are big in their own regard, but at the same time only impact a segment of the game -- one that not everyone takes part in.

Dragon Soul LFR changes possible in 6.0
Transmog addicts may have some good news for patch 6.0. When LFR was introduced with Dragon Soul, the last raid in Cataclysm, players flocked to the content and gathered armor and items that had their own unique color schemes. After Mists of Pandaria was introduced, players leveled to 90 -- and the ability to run Dragon Soul on LFR difficulty disappeared. While players can still farm the raid on Normal and Heroic difficulties, the unique color sets released specifically for LFR were no longer available to those max level characters.
This was in part due to the nature of LFR. The only way to raid LFR level content is to queue for it through the raid finder interface -- you can't simply change the dropdown difficulty on a per-character basis, as you can with Normal and Heroic difficulties. Once you've passed the level threshold for Cataclysm content, the option to raid Dragon Soul LFR simply disappears from the raid finder interface.

feedback and suggestions
Many of you had feedback for Aaron, and he was excited to incorporate your suggestions and criticisms into this updated design.
Some of the most notable changes based on player feedback include:
Reshaping the horns to more closely resemble those borne by Mephisto
Slimming down the blade's width
Introducing more skeletal textures and imagery to evoke a spine-like feel
Adding chains
Here are the results!
Thanks to everyone who provided feedback and suggestions. We'll have more visual progress updates and images to share in the new year.

The developers' disdain
I more or less expected this change to happen. The developers' disdain for these mechanics was no secret;
it was just a matter of time until they fell unceremoniously to the cutting room floor.
Arranging gear upgrades to meet these caps isn't something many would classify as enjoyable anyway, especially before Cataclysm brought us reforging.
The best you can hope for is meeting your caps exactly and not "losing" any excess rating, a scenario that many of us could only wistfully dream about after the release of Throne of Thunder and its hoards of hit gear.

The Doodlegnome, Paululum
The Doodlegnome, Paululum,
has been busy since that 251-page official forum thread finally came to an end -- she's continued to draw at a prolific rate,
even starting up her own webcomic and crafting some amazing BlizzCon badges -- but she hadn't created a new epic forum thread since she took the Zarcrawler idea and ran with it as far as her little legs could carry her.
